At Futsal Escocia, we are always looking at ways to further develop our players. Football and futsal continuously evolve and the aspiring footballers of today are going to be playing a more evolved game in 10-15 years.
What is changing?
Futsal and football are becoming far more tactical, and teams are far better organised than ever before. All the data and evidence shows that in the future, you will require technically better and more intelligent players all over the pitch or court.
This is where 2v2's, 3v3's and futsal can massively help your child develop.
With more touches of the ball, your child will automatically improve. More touches means more decisions to make, more mistakes and far greater learning. If your child is more involved, they are more engaged and work harder. In a 2v2 or 3v3 you cannot pass responsibility to others like you can in larger sided games.
Here's some data collated from 3v3 UK in England on the differences between 3v3, 5v5 and 7v7. Unfortunately, there is no data on 2v2's yet.
The above data is based on 10 minutes in each format. Imagine what the numbers are in 9v9 and 11v11!!
I have to be honest and highlight that with all the pros, there's obviously some cons. The ones I've identified are:
However, if supplemented with futsal and football your child will be able to experience different pitch sizes, conditions, surfaces, goal sizes, and balls. Variety is key for player development.
How can you play 2v2 or 3v3?
Small sided games are a big part of our Futsal Escocia Academy sessions, in particular at the foundation level age groups.
This structure has been a massive success abd we have seen firsthand how it is helping develop our players. Pro clubs are also recognising the benefits with a large number of our Futsal Escocia players progressing to that environment.
Off the back of the success of our players and our 3v3 leagues, we have increased our options to play 2v3 or 3v3.
In early March, we will be starting 2v2 Friday at Inverkeithing High School for u7/u9/u11 & u13. Matches will be every 2 weeks and spaces will only be open to individuals.

For 3v3's we will be running Summer Leagues that will be open to teams, including multiple Futsal Escocia teams at all age groups.
The Futsal Escocia Teams are open to all of our Academy players (players doing weekly sessions).
The 3v3's will be open at the following age groups:
Similar to the 2v2's, matches will be every 2 weeks and fees will be £20 per team per week, with a £35 registration fee.

We hope to see you join the 2v2 and 3v3 revolution soon!!
