Our Philosophy & Values

“In my teams, the goalie is the first attacker, and the striker is the first defender “

Johan Cruyff

There's hundreds of Johan Cruyff quotes that we could have added here but this one is really important in identifying how we want our teams to play.

Our playing philosophy is our bible and will be used by all our teams from u7 all the way up to our adult teams.

In futsal, it is arguably more important than football to play as a team. One player is 20% of your team players on the court and the speed and intensity of the game requires you to utilise your substitutes on a regular basis.

We understand that we have players at different levels of ability but effort, attitude and teamwork do not require any talent and they are non-negotiable.

At Futsal Escocia we want to create players that are comfortable on the ball and be brave enough to want to be on the ball as much as possible. We want players that can outplay and learn to play out from defence, a requirement at the top level in the modern game. We want to create players that can play with freedom and not to be afraid of making mistakes. You learn from your mistakes.

Within our youth structure in the Academy and Teams, development will always come before winning. If we can combine both, then great!!

In possession we want our players to be comfortable playing anywhere on the court and actively encourage them to have the freedom to rotate during the game and not be pigeonholed in one position. This creates better all round players and players that have a greater understanding of the game.

Out of possession we want our players to understand that every player is a defender and to work as a team to regain possession without conceding a goal. With our older age groups and adult team, it is important to have an understanding of tactics.

On the Playing Philosophy image you will read the words INTENSITY OVER VOLUME and we feel that this is vital in player development. A child can train 15 hours a week but if the child does not challenge themselves or train with any intensity then the hours put in will not have the same impact. We want our players to train as they play and to train with intensity.

We want all our players to develop as much as possible in an environment that they are happy but also challenged.

If a child is working hard and playing well, they will get opportunities to challenge themselves further by playing up a level.

Our Club Values

“How can you create a team and bring all these egos together? The main goal is for the team to play well – and not have a player saying, I play well, I scored two goals. Because if I score two goals, but three goals go into our net, then we lose. “ Johan Cruyff

We take great pride in our Code of Conduct and feel that it is vital for developing better players and better people. The percentages of becoming a pro football/futsal player are not great but it is important that as an academy and club we prepare our players for a successful life in whatever career they may choose.

Every player within our academy and teams will be treated the same, irrespective of their age, race, gender or ability.

Players, coaches and parents are expected to adhere to the Code of Conduct at all times.
