Creating a Sporting Club

October 4, 2024

One of the first things I noticed in Barcelona was that it is more than just a football club. Football is obviously the most popular and wealthy sport but did you know that Barcelona also has basketball, handball, roller hockey and futsal sections?

Lots of football clubs across the world have different sports as part of their club ranging from the sports named above to water polo, rowing, swimming, American football, tennis and E Sports.

Whilst I was at Flamengo, Fluminense and Botafogo in Rio, it was fantastic to see all the different sports in action and the real community feel that they had at their training facilities. They all had a clear pride to wear the colours and to represent their club at their chosen sport.

My question is, why don't we have this structure here? I know Rangers tried and failed with basketball in the 90s and motorsports more recently but I genuinely think it would work, in particular at amatuer/semi professional sports.

I would love to create a sporting club with futsal, football, basketball and handball. Provide players with the opportunity to play multisports from a young age and to specialise in a sport as they got older.

Coaches that are experts in their field and take the burden away from parents.
