Last night we were in League cup action against a strong Edina Futsal that have experience of playing in the Super League. Once again this was a different test for our players, all of whom are aged 15 or 16 years of age and they dealt with it magnificently.
Prior to the match we knew what to expect from Edina and prepared for it at training last week.
We started the match really well and limited Edina to shots from distance before losing a slack goal just before half time to go in 2-1 up at the break.
The second half the game opened up a bit more with Edina making more use of the keeper and we capitalised on this by scoring from errors made from pressing and blocking at the right times.
I thought we defended extremely well second half and it was great to see our players understanding the importance of defending as a team. Our defending forced Edina to go more direct and to use their height and physical advantage which resulted in them scoring 2 headers from long balls, something our players will undoubtedly learn from and improve over time.
The boys managed to retain the 2 goal cushion throughout the match and should be proud of their efforts!!
The result gives us a real opportunity to progress from our league cup group and to qualify for the semi finals.
Well done boys...keep up the hard work!!!
A massive thankyou to Edina for an excellent match and for their kind words and messages after the game.
