Our young team were in league cup action at the Oriam last night coming up against an experienced Galacticos team.
Result: Futsal Escocia 11 Galacticos 3
We are absolutely delighted to take away our first 3 points in what will be a monumental night in our clubs history in years to come. Being honest, I think we played better in our first game against Wattcell but it was a completely different test and something that our players will have to adapt to.
We took an early lead in the game but Galacticos were quick to respond to make it 1-1. We then upped the tempo a little and managed to create a 3 goal cushion and went into half time at 5-2 up. The half time team talk was about improving our general play, moving the ball quicker, rotating more and playing with an intensity.
The second half we definitely played at a higher tempo, created more opportunities and most importantly defended better as a team. The last 6 or 7 minutes Galacticos chased the game and made use of the fly goalkeeper, something that our players haven't faced at youth level and had to adapt quickly to. Despite having the extra player Escocia defended really well and scored 4 goals from forcing mistakes from their opponent. What was really pleasing was the spread of goals across the team, including a fantastic strike from Leon Keddie.
Every match in this competition will be a different test for our players in terms of adapting to different formations, the physicality of playing against men and the smaller size of the court. A terrific learning curve for everyone involved.
Well done boys...next up is a tough test against Edina Futsal next Wednesday evening.
Thanks to Galacticos for the match and we wish them all the best for the league.
