Last night, our B Team were crowned Champions of the SFL Edinburgh, after a resounding 10-1 against Nerazzurri.
The boys were over early to watch Dalkeith Thistle beat Stirling University and this provided extra motivation as a victory would secure the title.
The lads started well, pressing Nerazzurri from the first whistle. We got ourselves 3-0 up early on in the first half and went on to build a 6 goal lead before half time.
The second half wasn’t as high scoring half. However, the boys put on an eye-catching display. Build up and defensive play was brilliant, with Kyle Fairley putting in a great performance between the sticks.
We scored three further goals in the second half, to make it 10-1.
When the final whistle went, the celebrations started. Well, as much as teenage kids can smile!!!
It has been a great season in the SFL Edinburgh with not much between ourselves, Dalkeith Thistle, Stirling University, and North Merchiston. Hopefully one of those sides get a shot at the Super League playoffs.
We spoke with manager Russell Taylor after the game, and he made it clear that there was no MOTM from the game. He reasoned his decision by saying that it was a “collective effort from everyone over the course of the season” and that “individuals don't win leagues”.
Champions of the SFL Edinburgh, now that feels good.
Next season, we are considering entering B and C teams in the league as we want to provide a futsal pathway for as many players as possible.
